I am currently taking a photography course and recently had an assignment to take photos of colorful things. I thought, well, what's colorful around me? To find inspiration I first decided to take a photography walk. I walked around the block and looked for interesting things in nature. I took many photos, and though they were good, none of them could beat the color of the grass or flower photos I had previously taken. The grass is a vivid dark green color, with a shallow depth of field. The flower photo is a ruby-red flower against a pretty green background. When I saw these photos I just knew they fit the assignment. I also chose a photo of my teal flip-flops on a dark, neutral floor. They were naturally lying there and I realized it would make a very good subject. The last photo I selected was taken of a recycled-bottle art project. Recycled plastic water bottles were cut and painted different colors. That was one of the first things that popped to my mind when I first got the assignment. Taking these color photos has been so fun and I look forward to future projects like this!

Happy Earth Day! Earth Day is a celebration of the Earth and all of its inhabitants. When it comes to photography, I love to take nature photos. Nature photos are so fun to take because every flower or tree or plant that I photograph is different. My very first photos were of flowers and plants. The photos above are the very first ones that I ever took. In fact, these photos were taken on Earth Day after a life-changing lesson on phototographer Ansel Adams. The photos that you see below are more recent photos that really show how much I've grown.Photographing nature- Earth Day style- was what truly made me love photography. I can barely imagine my life now without photography in it, because it has become such a big and important part of my life now.

Earth Day itself began in 1970 when Senator Gaylord Nelson started Earth Day as a day to go to colleges around the country and teach the students there about protecting the environment. So how did it become such a big deal? Well, it became what it is because people cared. People learned about the world and environment that we live in and they said, "Yeah, this is good. Let's make this bigger." And they did, and Earth day became the important day that it is today. Today, it is almost Earth Day and Earth Day prep is already happening. But you don't have to limit your environmentalism to just Earth Day. There are things you can do every day, things that may seem small but that still make a big difference. You can reuse and recycle, you can turn off lights when you are not in the room, and you can turn off the faucet while you are brushing your teeth. All these things make so much difference in the world, even if it does not feel like they do. Happy Earth Day!

My mom and I recently went on a trip to Asheville, North Carolina, as well as Isle of Palms in South Carolina. This was our annual girls trip. As long as I can remember, my mother and I have gone on an annual girls trip to Asheville, which are some of my favorite trips as well as memories. We also love Isle of Palms, and though we don't usually take girls trips there, I was very excited that we had added it to this one. Not only was it a fun trip for spring break, but it was also a great opportunity for me to bring my camera and take some photos.

The first place we went was Asheville. We went to the Biltmore grounds first, and I decided to take photos of the flowers in full bloom. The contrast between the bright flowers and the more neutral backgrounds really made the flowers stand out. I used lots of different angles to capture the unique blooms, sometimes coming from the side, sometimes coming head on. After I took the flower photos, we headed to the farmyard, where there were cows and goats. At the goat pasture, there were lots of teensy-tiny baby goats. So cute!

After Asheville we went to Isle of Palms, and there I took lots of pictures of the water itself, but also the birds and wildlife. Though it was not at all easy capturing the birds in their constant movement, I managed to get it done. I also squatted down and took photos of the tide itself coming in, which I had thought about at our last beach trip to Topsail Island, but my photos of it at Isle of Palms turned out much better. What a fun trip and I can't wait to do it again next year!
